Venus de Milo, also known as Aphrodite de Milo, is one of the most famous Greek statues that have come down to us. The original marble statue from which this bust is taken dates back to 130 BC and is believed to have been created by Alexander of Antioch. Venus de Milo is named as such because it was discovered in 1820 on the island of Milos in Greece and subsequently acquired by the French. King Louis XVIII placed it in the Louvre Museum in Paris, where it remains to this day.
